the album -berlin 27.10.17- was recorded at club monarch located in berlins kottbusser tor during the second annual scope festival (a collaborative effort of berlins xjazz and we jazz). the dense atmosphere of the packed club is present in the recordings which showcase three major acts from the vibrant finnish scene. musically, the album ranges from the undeniable swing of jaska lukkarinen trios -roger- and bowman trios -the hillary step- to the scorching updated version of black motors -branches-, subtitled here as -berliner musik-.

with its lush live string and horn section, cant stop loving you when originally released in 1990 was an immediate favorite in the uk, and represented famed house producer marshall jeffersons movement toward utilizing live instrumentation in his productions. the track was released right around the time the kiss fm london launched as a legal radio station, and richard was support talent at the radio station launch party in hyde park london that was headlined by fellow chicagoans ten city.
the track also represented one of the last releases on the relaunched sam records imprint, before michael weiss ceased releasing new titles on sam and started nervous records.
krystal klear has shown a unique ability to recognize sonic elements trends from past eras, and re-shape them to work for todays club crowds. with his two versions, he has done a masterful job remixing this early 90s dance classic.

digging deep into the chicago rave vaults to re-issue the debut ep from billy nightmare aka mystic bill torres. reality check consists of 4 tracks, recorded at mirage studios in chicago in 1996. two tracks on the a-side are dark thumpers and will haunt your head for days. side b has 2 versions of the same song, lighter and funkier in mood both show the diversity mystic bill is capable of producing. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios. each ep is housed in a custom designed jacket by eloise leigh featuring a 90s photo of billy nightmare staring into tv static and includes a postcard with notes.
a much in demand reissue of two of nyc born-and-bred, pal joeys, classics from his joint label with reynald deschamps, loop dloop. first up, party time which harnesses that 90s nyc underground house energy with a rawness that was to emanate through many of pal joeys subsequent productions. scalpel in hand, joey expertly crafted this sample laden groover, his trademark stuttering, off-kilter rhythms, loops and fills keeping listeners on their toes throughout, never knowing how the next phrase might unfold. on the flip, raw love utilises a seminal disco classic as its main sample source, looping it in a way only pal joeys mind knows how, adding percussive hits and extra effects to create an innovative, animated and exhilaratingly rhythmic dancefloor bomb. both tracks are perfect examples of the simplicity and seeming effortlessness that pal joey maintains in his productions, adhering to the mantra that less is more but with a resonating rawness that touches deep down in the soul.

absence seizure marks its tenth release this september, a split package comprising one original from co-founder abe duque and two from label-founder matuss. since its launch back in 2015 the new york city based absence seizure imprint, launched by abe duque and matuss has been a platform for the latters original material and across the past nine releases and picked up support from the likes of young male, sage caswell, dorian paic and eduardo de la calle amongst others. here though we see co-founder abe duque join the part to mark the labels tenth vinyl release alongside label regular julia matuss. matuss steps up with crashing hard a murky, stripped-back number fuelled by choppy bass stabs, minimal percussive bleeps and airy atmospherics . next on the package is abe duques 11-27-2016, a typically raw affair from the new york techno veteran fuelled by squelching 303 lines, robust analogue drums and dreamy arpeggios. the b side features matuss sisabuc fresh closes out the package, stripping things back even further to minute, shuffled percussion, stuttering ethereal chords and permeating sub hits which all flow in unison across its ten minute duration.

heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger nakombe nga by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrats haunting what did she say? at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginitys melancholic the key, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the labels soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb nakombe nga. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.

in the 80s, a nigerian dj named hycentto junior was notorious for making onitsha people dance on his grooves. soon, influenced by u.s hip-hop artists, he began rapping on top of the music he played. his eccentric style drew the attention of the biggest name, and the famous nkono teles decided to work with him on his next lp, mama groove. their project was released in 1991. due to unfortunate circumstances, the number of copies available was really low, making it very hard to find. more than 25 years later, working for a motor company, hycentto met online with french music passionate collective lorem ipsum, that had randomly found his mama groove lp. the result is a reissue auditioning all the 1991 mama grooves tracks and two bonuses selected from his first 1984 album, at a party last night. the unique variety of sounds and genres, covering electro hip-hop, digi reggae and disco-funk, will carry you from poolside to late night dancefloors!

amish boy aka sküge (not to be confused with skudge) is hugues croibien, a thirty seven year old belgian who has experimented with electronic music since his teens. with a diet of seal phüric, the prodigy, autechre and unit moebius stoking his primordial fire, croibien began to align with the rage that exists in the breakcore genre. already an addict of reggae and dub at this time, croibien decided to create some cut-up raggacore with his brand new ableton live 3 software. meanwhile with friends, croibien created break n brol, a non-lucrative association which tried to promote alternative electronic music in liège where he lived. they premiered some bassline stars kanji kinetic and -squire of gothos- on the belgian scene, alongside other alternative electronic composers and musicians like subjex, ebola, mustard gunn and herrmutt lobby. the fellowship decided to create a free net label to release compilations with the bnb party artists. the rough style techno resurgence over the last few years has precipitated a metamorphosis, sküge became amish boy more glitchy than techno, more offbeat than acid and more ambivalent than industrial. although heavily invested for two decades now, laika test project on power vacuum will be croibiens first vinyl release, with a follow-up already in the pipeline.

rob belleville is a producer from the netherlands. his music can be found in the same space as producers such as arne weinberg, microworld, sean deason and drivetrain. he is know for moving between ambient electronica and atmospheric techno sounds, always warm and well produced. this release is no different, as here we have two very special tracks with the same integrity as anything rob has written in the past. on the a side we ve got implacable force which features a driving techno foundation and washy synths, interwoven for perfect headspace. the second track in is sungazing, which takes you into a more lazy groove with swirling, warm pads and more good drum programming. the b side features rise n shine and sands of time, both blurring the line between deep house and techno, with a fine balance between the melodic textures and tech house percussion. if you like atmospheric, melodic textures and quality music in general, this one is for you.
